MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY

Millville is a redeveloping community that is building upon its industrial and waterfront heritage as a basis for the future. A small, rural community in southern New Jersey, Millville is a town of 27,000 with a proud history of glassmaking and community spirit. Known as the Holly City of America, Millville proudly honors its traditions and an old-fashioned, neighborly quality of life based upon community pride. The city is located just 45 minutes from Cape May, Atlantic City, Wilmington, DE and Philadelphia, PA. We are one of the state's largest and least crowded cities, covering over 44 square miles. Union Lake, one of the largest recreational lakes in the state, is adjacent to center city. It was built on the Maurice River in the 1860's as a source of energy for the textile mill (Union Mills) from which the city derived it's name.

The Maurice River, with federal Wild and Scenic Designation, runs directly through the city in the downtown. The river has a long history of transportation and recreation and strongly influenced the manner in which the town grew. Today the city recognizes the beauty and significance of the river and is redeveloping the waterfront as a critical part of the city, the downtown, and the Glasstown Arts District. The riverfront is open to the public with walkways, a boardwalk and public plazas.

Wheaton Village, on the east side of the city, offers an entertaining exhibition of life in the Victorian era with shops and crafts and the world renown Museum of American Glass. The cornerstone of the village is the working glass factory where visitors can see glass blowing demonstrations and make their own paperweight. Millville has been a center of the glass industry since colonial times.

The nation's first defense airport is on the city's southwestern side. World War II fighter pilots received their final training in P-47 Thunderbolt bombers before being dispatched to overseas assignments. The field honors them with the unique Millville Army Air Field Museum and its displays of vintage aircraft and World War II memorabilia. The Millville Municipal Building honors those that trained and lost their lives, with a beautiful mural that overlooks the city's downtown. If you are flying to Millville, the airport is a modern, fully instrumented air field with a 6,000 foot lighted runway. Millville's downtown is home to the growing Glasstown Arts District which features numerous pioneer artists, 14 studios, a public arts gallery (Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts) 40 retail shops, and first class restaurants. The six block arts district offers a pedestrian friendly stroll through center of the community with historic buildings and a recently redeveloped streetscape.

The William E. Ewan Memorial Field just behind the Police Administration Building on Ware Avenue seats 3,000. It was the site of the 2000 Girls Babe Ruth Softball 16U World Series.

Millville welcomes you, whether you come to compete in the Softball World Series or to have a great family vacation. Don't be surprised if we say hello when passing you on the street, it is part of the city's friendly tradition.
