LOUDOUN COUNTY, VIRGINIA

Welcome to Loudoun County, Virginia! Loudoun is proud to host the 2007 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth Baseball World Series. This is a prestigious honor for the county and for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Loudoun County is the envy of many communities. Located 25 miles west of Washington, D.C. and stretching to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the area is surrounded by physical beauty, while serving as a vital hub for technology and suburban development. Residents and visitors alike are drawn to the mountains, rivers, small towns, farms, historic resources and open spaces. Dulles International Airport, serving the growing number of businesses and leisure travelers, is located in the eastern part of the county, along with an impressive number of major commercial enterprises. The county’s western areas maintain much of the rural landscape of years gone by.

While in Loudoun, you can take a thrilling rafting trip down the Potomac River, play an afternoon of perfect golf, take a dip in one of
the area’s pools and water parks, hike in a nature preserve, or enjoy a tranquil stroll through one of the historic districts. The county’s network of regional and community parks offer diverse recreational opportunities and facilities for all ages. Loudoun also offers an array of cultural amenities. The county’s rich agricultural past is showcased at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum. The newest National Air & Space Musuem, the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center, is located in Loudoun. There’s also a Greek Revival Mansion, a Civil War battlefield, the nation’s second smallest National Cemetery, and an 18th century restored Quaker Village.

Visitors to Loudoun can choose from a variety of hotels, motels and inns that accommodate a wide range of tastes and budgets. The abundance and variety of local restaurants will tempt even the most discerning of tastebuds. And shoppers can “shop ‘til they drop” at the county’s indoor shopping mall, antiques stores, outlet center, specialty shops and boutiques.

The 2007 tournament represents the fourth time that Loudoun has been selected to host a Babe Ruth World Series. The site for this year’s event, Fireman’s Field, is a community baseball park owned by the Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company. This picturesque field bordered by 100-foot high oak trees was built in the 1940’s for Purcellville’s teams at the time when towns all across America had their own baseball team. The complex also features an old-fashioned skating rink and picnic area. The field has taken on many improvements over the last several years, including those made in the preparation for the 1998 16-Year-Old World Series. The ballpark has been enhanced with new lights and fencing, new bullpens, stadium seating for 2,000, and a newly irrigated grass infield. Fireman’s Field has played, and will continue to play, a vital role in the community for years to come.

Loudoun County extends the warmest of welcomes to all players, coaches, umpires, family members, fans and media representatives of the 2007 Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old World Series
